Using Actions

Making New Action

If your Actions window is not visible go to Window>Actions to
display the Actions window. The first thing that you need to know
is that all the actions must be in their own "Action Set" which acts
like a folder with the files inside of it.

So go ahead and click on the new set icon to create a new
set
, name it whatever you like, for example: "My Action Set". Now
you can create a new action inside your Action set. Click on the
"create new action" icon to make a new action.

You may give your action an appropriate name based on what it
does. From now on everything that you do in photoshop gets recorded
into your action. You may always stop recording the action by pressing
on the stop icon whenever you're satisfied with the final effect, to resume
recording the action simply press on the record icon again. To play the
whole action simply select it and press on the play icon.

Editing Action

If you don't like something about your action after you've made it you
may always modify it. To add a new command to the action simply
select the command from which you want the new command to start
and press record. Your new command will be created after the command
that you have selected.

You may also delete any command in the action you want, by pressing
on the delete icon or you may simply uncheck the box to the left of the
command to temporarily disable it. If you've made the action and tried it
on your other files and it still doesn't produce the effect you expected you
may want to go through the whole action by individually double clicking on
each command rather than playing the whole action at once. This will ensure
every step you're making is correct and you can edit it as you go.

Loading Actions

To load the action simply press on the little arrow at the top of the actions
window and then select Load Actions...Photoshop saves all the Action
sets
that you make in the Presets/Photoshop Actions/ folder by default,
however your actions don't have to be in that folder, you may load them from
whatever folder you want to.

Saving Actions

You may have noticed that the "Save Action" option is disabled when
you try to save an action. This is because all the actions have to be saved
in the Action Set which you must create before making a new action.
You must select your Action Set and only then the save option will become
available. You may save your action sets in whatever folder you like, it doesn't
have to be in the default photoshop folder.
